Perception

Our perception about natural hair is the most damaging  to our natural hair.  I said, we need to change our perception of natural hair in order to truly embrace our natural hair.  We start by first, accepting the gift that God gave to us.  Our natural hair was not a mistake.  It wasn't a punishment or a battle to be fought.  It was and is a gift.  The meaning of a gift is something voluntarily transferred by one person to another without compensation. We sure do spend a lot of money on this gift lol.

Is Natural Hair for Everyone!

The question of the day is...Is natural hair for everyone?  Final answer "yes."  You were born with it right?  Right! So let's deal with it at face value.  Who better is there to educate us about our natural hair than ourselves? Million dollar answer NO ONE.  We give the beauty industry so much money and what do they give us back?  They give us split ends, damaged hairlines, scalp irritation, shedding, build up, and thinning just to name a few.  With these wonderful gifts of mercy, no wonder we want to cover up or manipulate our natural hair into something that it is not suppose to be....straight.  It will take time to get to know your natural hair and what works and what does not work.  It will definitely be trial and error.  But when you figure it out...watch out world.  The bold and beautiful have entered the building.  There is no hair texture like our natural hair.  People wish they had hair like ours and we are constantly trying to change it to look like theirs.  What we need to change is our thought process and perception about our natural hair not change our hair. So how can we change our thought process and perception about our natural hair?????  Let's pick this conversation up next week.  Think about it and keep it real....natural!

You Need Patience....Not Lock Extensions

Universe,

Locks regardless of what type of locks, takes patience.  This is not an instant gratification hair style. If you truly want locks, embrace the journey.  It is amazing what you will learn about your hair and yourself.  I am not against lock extensions at all but I am against...."I don't short hair.".  Pardon me, but what length of hair were you born with???  My favorite length when I did the big chop was 2 inches.  I have been locked for almost 9 years now and last Friday, I cut off about 3+ inches of locks without any hesitation.

Happy 2015!!!!

I hope 2015 brings everyone many great hair days!

What causes shedding when I color my Sisterlocks?

You have probably heard that if you must color, color your hair before you are installed.  Well personally, I think the most important issue is not timing but results....Know that if you color before or during the initial locking staging, this will prolong the locking process.  Even worse, color is damaging to our hair...open or locked.  With Sisterlocks, it causes shedding of the locks from the tip up.  This is inevitable.  It doesn't matter what brand you use.  Even the Herbatints and Naturtints of the world which are less harmful causes shedding.

Should I Cut my Damaged Hair Before an Installation

This question was posed to me by a potential client who's hair has lost it's natural curl pattern due to heat damage.  Her hair is completely natural but bone straight.  As the new growth grows in, it becomes obvious that the hair has been damaged because of the two totally different textures and no there is not any relaxer on the ends.

When you have heat damage or product damage that may have changed your natural curl pattern, it is not necessary to cut the damage hair before your install with Sisterlocks.

Hot weather and locks

It's getting hot in here...so take off all your clothes...JK.  Seriously the hot weather just like the cold weather can do damage to your locks.  Make sure you are spritzing with water often to keep the moisture in your beautiful locks.  Enjoy the weather.

What products do I use for my natural hair??

Hello all,

So much for posting weekly lol...but I never stop thinking about natural hair especially Sisterlocks.  So I have been having a lot of discussions about products as of late.  Also I just recently became a distributor of Sisterlocks products, which are truly the best products for our Sisterlocks (plug).  However, when it comes to open natural hair, not all natural products work for all hair types.  It is best to know your hair type(s) which will save you time, energy and money when you purchase product.

Are there any natural hair events in the area?

Hello Universal,

Ok so I have fallen off big time of blogging every week....I just don't have time.  But I definitely put forth a better effort.  So my question to answer this week is "Are there any natural hair events in the area?"  Simply put "YES" all the time.  Follow up question...where?  Everywhere.  I just attended a workshop with Dr. Yoland M. Lenzy, MD presenting on hair thinning/hair loss #amazingpersentation #greatinformation.  This event was hosted by the New England Natural Hair Health and Wellness Collaborative.

What is the price of Sisterlocks?

A lot of people who are interested in Sisterlocks feel that they are way too expensive.  Are you one of those people?  That is rhetorical , don't answer that just continue to read.  This post is not meant to sway your oprion one way or another. I want to give you a different perspective on the cost of Sisterlocks...my persepective as a person who has been locked for 7 years and now a Sisterlocks Consultant.

First I feel that Sisterlocks is just not another hair style but I think of it as an investment in myself.
