With historical low temperatures everywhere....it is so important to protect your locs. The colder the season, the drier your scalp will be. For people who battle with dry scalp, the cold weather could mean an itchy and inflamed scalp. Here are a few tips to help get through the cold weather:
- Wash your hair but don't overdo it. You can get away with excessive washing in the warmer months but over washing your hair removes the natural moisturizers from the your scalp. Be careful.
- Limit the use of hot water and shampoos; meaning I know it feels great when you wash your haair in hot water but in the winter months go with the luke warm water and shorter shampooing time to help prevent drying of the scalp.
- Avoid putting the heat on "HELL" in your home and car. I know I know it is so cold and we are tropical birds. However heat above 78 degrees depletes moisture in the air and adds to a dry scalp.
- Last but not least, don't stop exercising and drinkning water. A healthy you equals healthy locs.
Hope this helps. Stay warm!!!
